A New Coach For The Austria Team

Austria didn't really turn head during their appearance in the 2008 Euro Cup.  In fact, they suffered a rather early departure from the competition. Still, that isn't going to get in the way of their chances for the 2010 World Cup, at least, according to their new coach Karl Brueckner.  Brueckner has confidence that his young team will be able to rise to the occasion and improve upon their playing abilities so that they will be able to qualify for the Cup.

Some might feel that Brueckner is setting his sights a little high. After all, the Austria team didn't make it past the rounds of group play during the recent 2008 Euro Cup.  But Brueckner has indicated that the results of the Euro Cup were based more on a few mistakes than on a lack of talent or potential.  He has reported being impressed with the talent of the Austria team, as well as with their dedication.  He thinks that this is a team that simply hasn't yet come into its own, but that will be a force to be reckoned with after more practice and polish.

For now, Brueckner will have more immediate things to focus on as Austria only has ten games left for the new coach to assess which of the coaching staff will be remaining under his leadership and which will need to be replaced.  He is also hoping that he can rebuild some burned bridges with soccer talent that has had disagreements with the former coaching staff.  This may mean the return of striker Ivica Vastic and defender Paul Scharner to the Austria team.
